You may have come across this word recently that is why you may be wondering about its meaning. Well, the meaning of telecommuting is to be able to work outside an office environment through the help of technology that we have today such as computers. The other term of telecommuting is teleworking.
Usually teleworkers are working from home. With the help of the internet telecommuters are able to work from home since they can efficiently communicate with their bosses through the aid of video conferencing service or other services which can be used in teleworking.Telecommuting is becoming more and more popular among large companies today because this way they can save on space in their actual office. With telecommuting, companies no longer need to rent a large place to cater their workers since their workers can work from home.
Usually, the nature of the job in teleworking involves the use of computers. With computer-related jobs, the place does not matter as long as the worker has a terminal to use in accomplishing his or her task. Some of these works are web development, multimedia editing such as photo and video editing.
But there are also disadvantages when it comes to telecommuting. Teleworking is not for people who are easily distracted since working at home or an environment outside the office may be full of distractions. Teleworking is also not for people who tend to procrastinate most of the time. If you have a reputation of having slacks constantly then telecommuting may not be the right thing for you. But if in case that you have a strong sense of motivation and you do not need to have constant supervision then you should definitely consider working from home. If your current employer allows you to work from home, try to talk to your boss if you can work from home.
